The Supernatural Man – Part iii – Let Us Go Down

The Supernatural Man

Part iii

Let Us Go Down

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. (Genesis 11:7)

So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. (Genesis 11:8)

The WHO of the Us and the WHO of the WE

In verse 7 of Genesis, Chapter 11, we have the word ‘us,’ let us go down. The Spirit of God is displaying the fullness of the Godhead bodily. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. (Colossians 2:9) In the word ‘us’ the Spirit of God brings before us the multiple essence of Being and Oneness of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. The equality is inseparable although the mind of man tries to divide the Godhead, the Holy Spirit reminds us that each Divine Being cannot be separated from the other. The thoughts in the Godhead are a continual wave of intelligence that flows through the whole of the Godhead. There is no disruption of thought. The counsel and intelligence of the Divine is just that — the thoughts and actions of the Divine God. Such an intelligence is announced in Hebrews 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

In Hebrews 4:13 it is divine intelligence that views the ways and thoughts of man, it is not only man that God views, it is also His whole revealed creation that God simultaneously sees. Let us go down, displays this intelligence (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) in relationship to the men of this world. The Lord Jesus also refers to the Godhead as ‘we’ in the Gospel of John, Chapter 3, verse 11. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. In this verse, the Lord Jesus alluded to the Godhead three (3) times; ‘We’ three times, and ‘our’ once; from the very voice of the Son of God there is the full display of the Godhead. It is one of the most unifying verses of the Godhead in all three personalities. The repetition of ‘we’ three (3) times unifies the Godhead; and then to show this unity, the word ‘our’ draws all three personalities together in Oneness.

The Gospel of John, Chapter 3, has such depth that no matter how much it is studied, the deeper one digs, the greater the jewels that are found. In John, Chapter 3, relating to His presence, the Lord Jesus speaks of His Omnipresence with God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit; for He attests to His presence both on earth, and in heaven at the same time, this divine presence He affirms of Himself as the son of man. And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. (John 3:13) The Lord Jesus also stated to the woman of Samaria, in the parcel of ground which Jacob gave unto Joseph where Jacob’s well was, that, God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) The Lord Jesus unveiled that God is Spirit. This was not only in reference to the personality of God the Holy Spirit, but included Himself, and God the Father as we find concerning the Son in Romans 8:9. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. The revelation of God in Jesus Christ is just as much from His divine Spirit as the manifestation of the Son of God as the image of the invisible God.

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: (Colossians 1:15)

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (2 Corinthians 4:4)

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Hebrews 1:3)

In the position of the fullness of the Godhead bodily, we have Christ manifested as the God of creation, and this is the manifestation of the invisible God in the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His Person. It is Jesus Christ who is the direct representative of God to man, for there is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved.

Let Us Go Down: the Godhead Bodily Revealed in Christ

In the expression, ‘let us go down’ we see the expression of the whole Godhead in Jesus Christ, as Christ is the revealing factor of the Godhead to mankind. Before the cross, in the fullness of the Godhead bodily, the man Christ Jesus walked among men as the express image of God. After the cross and His resurrection, Christ Jesus walked on earth as the glorified man in the fullness of the Godhead bodily. In the son of man, He is now fit for heaven to represent us before the Father as the divine sacrifice. Because of the sacrifice of Himself on the cross He was able to present us before God the Father. This was a new glorified image of the son of man, the first born from the dead; and this image now resides in heaven.

Let Us Go Down: the Godhead Bodily Revealed in Time and Purpose

In Christ’s revelation and manifestation upon the earth do we not hear the echo of ‘let us go down’? This was in the fullness of time, and once more, in the future when He will come in great glory.

To purchase a possession one must pay the price. If there is a lien, or indebtedness, both lien and debt must be satisfied. This is where man comes in, we (the children of God) are that prized possession.

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. (Acts 20:28)

Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:14)

Christ paid the price, and satisfied our indebtedness, we are bought with a price, the precious blood of Christ. He has purchased us, however, we are still on the earth, and He is in heaven, but with Him in heaven are His title deeds to each and every soul that He has redeemed. He has presented these deeds to God the Father signed with His precious blood. Let us not take away from this wonderful transaction of our salvation and the glory of our blessed Savior. Man might try to tarnish Him with their ungodly thoughts, they will not accept that this man Christ Jesus is in Himself the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Remember, divine intelligence continually flows through the Godhead, and the Godhead is manifested in One personality, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ was not Adam, Christ was and is the supernatural Man from heaven, therefore, the voice that proclaimed, Let us go down,’ was the voice of God the Son. The purpose of the Godhead bodily has always been to fulfil His redemptive plan for His creation.

Let Us Go Down: to Confound, Confuse and Overturn Rebellious Man

In the genealogy of Shem. Ham, and Japheth we have the division of the nations. (Genesis 10:32) These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood. In this division God confounded man in respect to their unity. The division was a deliberate separation of man by God, however, man still attempts to unify himself by acquiring and developing one language in which they can communicate with each other and thereby rise up against God. And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. (Genesis 11:1) By their unification through language they bonded together in opposition to God. The old enmity of Satan and man against God, once again manifested itself through their efforts in constructing a tower in the city of Babel (in the land of Shinar) to glorify themselves. Even though we call this tower the Tower of Babel, it was the tower of sin and rebellion, in a city of wickedness and idolatry.

So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. (Genesis 11:8)

Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. (Genesis 11:9)

Let Us Go Down: From Babel to Babylon: A Brief Sketch in Time

This city (Babel) was in the land of Shinar which (through Scripture) has a continuing history of evil and rebellion up to it’s end in the city of Babylon, the Great. Study the flow of the land of Shinar throughout Scripture.

The following are a few references: Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image was erected in the land of Shinar on the plain of Dura. And pay attention to the prophecy of Zechariah where we see the two women carrying the idolatrous ephah filled with the abominations of the earth to the land of Shinar. Shinar is mentioned seven times in Scripture. This should be enough to keep you interested in the land of Shinar.

As I have said, Babylon or Babel reaches it’s final destruction in the prophecy of this great city and once again, the world will be of one language, and this time He will come down or ‘let us go down,’ to destroy Babylon the Great. Because of the unity of the nations in their evil wicked hearts and actions, the Lord will destroy them, and divide them once again. He will put the remnant into subjection to His glorious millennial kingdom; as He rules over the world in great glory and righteousness. The world will be in subjection to one divine language: the Word of God.

The Two Covenants of God: The Symbol and The Fulfillment

The last word to Noah was concerning the covenant that God made with all flesh. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth. (Genesis 9:17) Why this covenant with all flesh, the answer is found in 8:20, And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. As in salvation, before God would seal the covenant with all flesh, there had to be the sacrifice before the covenant was ratified. We see this as a distance shadow of the son of man upon the cross of Calvary; for the signing of the covenant that was made with us (the children of God) was in the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. In Noah’s covenant, God refers to it as the everlasting covenant.

And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. (Genesis 8:21)

And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that [is] upon the earth. (Genesis 9:16)

When God smelled the sweet savour of that sacrifice (that prefigured His divine sacrifice to come) then God was pleased, and consequently, He gave the covenant not only to man, but also to the earth. Compare the following verses with the previous verses in Genesis 8 and 9.

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. Ephesians 5:2

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:13)

For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; (Ephesians 2:14)

Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; (Ephesians 2:15)

And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: (Ephesians 2:16)

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. (2 Corinthians 2:14)

For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: (2 Corinthians 2:15)

To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? (2 Corinthians 2:16)

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. (2 Corinthians 2:17)

Noah was repeating what he had done prior to the flood (offering sacrifice to God) however, this time it was in a new world that had been cleansed by water. In order to establish His covenant with man (in this new cleansed environment) God required a sacrifice. It was God who brought life through the flood, and it was Noah who offered that life to God. So too, when our blessed Lord came into a world of darkness, and walked through it, He offered Himself a sweet savour to God. Who is sufficient for these things? He walked on earth as the living sacrifice, without blemish, a body prepared for Him before the foundations of the earth. He walked in a world scarred by sin, and presented Himself as the sweet savour of sacrifice for sin unto God.

As we walk through this world should we not lay hold of the words of the Spirit of God in Romans 12:1, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. In the Book of Romans we see ourselves as living sacrifices unto God, however, it also turns us to the One who walked before the Father in a living sacrifice, as well as His sacrifice unto death on the cross. He had to be blameless, spotless, and undefiled, He must be the supernatural Man to sign a supernatural covenant with God in His own precious blood. He presents us to the Father in the title deeds that He obtained waiting for the purchased possession in heaven. This Adam could not do.

For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: (2 Corinthians 2:15)

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. (Ephesians 5:2)

When the Son of God, in the image of God, went into death on the cross for us, He brought us into His death through the flood of sin, and delivered us to the shores of heaven; the judgment is past, and now we have peace within our hearts and souls, and our spirit is at rest with God.

The New World: The Old Delusion

The sacrifice of Noah is very important, for Noah himself was taken through the waves of judgment, he was completely at the mercy of God during the judgment of the great flood. But God delivered him, and gave him a symbol of peace when the dove returned with a leaf of life; thus, Noah came into a new world that was purged by death. It was a new day for mankind, yet, man still had sin within him. Noah’s sacrifice took place in this new environment that had been purged of the wickedness of man, however, we don’t read of another sacrifice until God reveals Himself to man once more as the image of God, The God of glory. God revealed Himself to Abram in the land of Mesopotamia, all the way from Noah to Abraham there is not one sacrifice mentioned in the word of God. There is no sacrifice offered up to God during this time span between Noah and Abraham. After seeing and feeling the raging waves of judgment, the heart of man (the descendants of Noah) was still deceitful and desperately wicked. Man, once again, becomes united through their vain imaginations, and builds a tower to the stars in honor and worship of the stars, and at the same time casts off his Creator and Deliverer once again.

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. (Genesis 11:4)

And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. (Genesis 11:5)

The first thing that we see is the unification of man; in all spheres of life the people of Babel become as one; and with one purpose they begin to exalt themselves, not only by building a city, but by building a monument to themselves and to their glory, a tower to reach unto heaven. Man wants to be like the most high God: the continuous delusion of both Satan and man. The Omnipotent God will not stand for this idolatry for He is a Jealous God.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; (Exodus 20:5)

For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name [is] Jealous, [is] a jealous God: (Exodus 34:14)

For the LORD thy God [is] a consuming fire, [even] a jealous God. (Deuteronomy 4:24)

Let Us Go Down: The Call of Abraham

In this unification of man the supernatural Man had to act once more, for He confounded their language and scattered them upon the face of the earth. Man has been trying ever since to unify himself world wide with one language, through one means of communication. We have come full circle from the tower in the city of Babel; because the world today is unified through every cell phone, through every computer, through every electronic device carrying the same language (binary) and removing the authority of the Almighty God and the grace of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. (Thanks be to the power of God that even through a perverted language [a language of numbers: through computers, internet /binary language] we are still showering the world with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ sometimes through a little wire, and sometimes merely through the power of air.) After the complete collapse of the system of Babel, God in His next manifestation calls Abraham.

Then said the high priest, Are these things so? (Acts 7:1)

And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,(Acts 7:2)

And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee. (Acts 7:3)

The Spirit of God reveals to us in the Book of Acts the very personal call of Abraham. It is The God of glory who appeared to Abraham. The Spirit of God used the heavenly title The God of glory. This title of God appears only once in the New Testament, and is related only to the call of Abraham. Why is this so important? The answer is in Matthew 1:1, The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. In Abraham and his call we see the beginning of a divine seed supernaturally brought out by the birth of Isaac. We see in Isaac, and the descendants of Isaac a direct link to the Son of God, Jesus Christ. This fulfills the seed in the genealogy of Matthew’s Gospel, Chapter 1; making the call of Abraham one of the most important revelations in the Holy Scriptures, for the Messiah would come from the descendants of Abraham. God’s title as The God of Glory, revealed that God’s glory would be manifested through the Messiah, and in the face of Jesus Christ.

Let Us Go Down: The God of Glory

In the Old Testament, the phrase, The God of glory is mentioned again only one time in Psalm 29:3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters. In Psalm 29, we have the majesty, the might, the power, and the glory of the LORD. It is He, in Psalm 29, who sits upon the flood, and sitteth a King forever. Both the voice and the majesty of the Lord is powerful as He upholds all things by the word of His power, and this is The God of glory who appeared unto Abraham. Abraham was called out of the world that he knew to follow a path which he knew not of, but The God of glory promised him that He would guide and keep him. We see in Abraham’s faith. The same faith that we found in Abel, and faith that traveled through Noah is resident in Abraham. Abraham is the continuation of the divine supernatural call of God. It is The God of glory, the God of heaven, the image of God come down to appear unto Abraham. Abraham was called out of Mesopotamia, every thing he knew was left behind, and after a brief stay in Haran, where Terah died, (the last thread to the old world was removed), Abraham journeyed into the land of promise. Not since the days of Noah is there recorded in Scripture a man sacrificing to God, but now, in Abraham, we have a man offering up a sacrifice to God.

Let Us Go Down: The I AM

The Lord Jesus spent a great deal of time conversing with the Pharisees about Abraham, and His relationship to Abraham. In the Gospel of John, Chapter 8, from verse 12 to verse 59, the Lord Jesus reveals Himself as the great I AM. In a profound statement, concerning Abraham, the Lord Jesus proclaimed that before Abraham was, I AM. Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. It is in this chapter of the Gospel of John that He reveals Himself as the great I AM, and the Spirit of God records this combination, I AM, eight times. The accuracy of the Spirit’s voice is, of course, undisputable. Is this not the same Spirit who moved upon the face of the waters in Genesis 1:2. Was not darkness upon the face of the deep? So, now, the Spirit of God takes the account of John 8:12-59 and speaks to us in this dark world of today:

  1. I am the light of the world
  2. I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.
  3. I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
  4. I am from above
  5. I am not of this world.
  6. if ye believe not that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.
  7. then shall ye know that I am
  8. Before Abraham was, I am.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)

And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. (John 8:16)

I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. (John 8:18)

And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. (John 8:23)

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins. (John 8:24)

Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. (John 8:28)

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. (John 8:58)

For a better understanding in the Old Testament, we have a comparison section related in Chapter 8 in the Gospel of John in Chapter 3 of Exodus. Consider the ‘I’ in reference to God from verse 3 to verse 21.

Moreover he said, I [am] the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. (Exodus 3:6)

And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which [are] in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; (Exodus 3:7)

And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. (Exodus 3:8)

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. (Exodus 3:9)

Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. (Exodus 3:10)

And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this [shall be] a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. (Exodus 3:12)

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. (Exodus 3:14)

Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and [seen] that which is done to you in Egypt: (Exodus 3:16)

And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey. (Exodus 3:17)

And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.(Exodus 3:19)

And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go. (Exodus 3:20)

And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty: (Exodus 3:21)

In this section in Exodus, the pronoun, I, is mentioned eighteen (18) times, and we have the great proclamation from the Almighty God as the great I AM 3 times. Three (3) times in Exodus 3:14 He unveils Himself as the great I AM, (I AM, I AM, I AM). The Lord Jesus refers to Himself eight (8) times as the I am of Exodus 3. This is The God of glory who appeared to Abraham when he was yet in the land of Shinar in Mesopotamia. Since the title of this article is Let Us Go Down, we are connected with Mesopotamia, and the land of Shinar in both the city of Babel and the call of Abraham. For those who wish to study Mesopotamia, the region is mentioned seven (7) times in the entire Bible, and the land of Shinar is also mentioned seven (7) times. We see in this the completion of evil in the mother of harlots, Babylon the Great (which by the way is mentioned in Revelation 17:5, and 18:2).

Since Abraham is such a big part of Jewish life, the Lord Jesus spent Chapter 8 of the Gospel of John portraying Himself as the God of Abraham. Even to the point of His appearance as Melchizedek, when He disclosed that Abraham rejoiced to see His day, and in the fullness of time Abraham saw that day, and was glad. For Abraham beheld the image of God in the face of Jesus Christ, The God of glory.

Let Us Go Down: The Most High God

With the appearance of God as Melchizedek we have His title, the most high God. With His appearance in Mesopotamia, we have The God of glory. The God of glory is His heavenly title, and the title of His effulgence (meaning, the display of His full glory as on the mount of transfiguration). This is His glory that encompasses His total Being. (Isaiah 6) The most high God is God’s title of possession, as in most high God possessor of heaven and earth.

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. (Genesis 14:18)

And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: (Genesis 14:19)

We have two titles: The God of glory that appeared unto Abraham in Mesopotamia, and the most high God who appeared unto Abraham in Genesis 14:18,19. The difference in The God of glory in Mesopotamia, is the call of God. God is calling Abraham and revealing His glory to him as He revealed His glory to Moses at the burning bush.

In the title, ‘the most high God possessor of heaven and earth,’ we have the God of promise and possession, He is the One who will give the title deeds to the land of Israel to Abraham. He is the One as ‘the most high God,’ and the possessor of not only heaven, but also possessor of earth to give to Abraham and to his descendants the land of promise; which will be completely fulfilled when the Lord Jesus comes and sets up His millennial kingdom.

<<A Psalm of David.>> The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. (Psalm 110:1)

The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. (Psalm 110:2)

Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. (Psalm 110:3)

The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. (Psalm 110:4)

The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.(Psalm 110:5)

He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. (Psalm 110:6)

He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head. (Psalm 110:7)

In John, Chapter 8, we have the voice of the Spirit of God bringing to remembrance not only the things that were spoken by the Lord Jesus, but the Spirit of God is speaking to us in the continuity of the Scriptures. Remember the Spirit’s voice in Hebrews 13:8: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

In our study of this supernatural Man, we see God presenting us with the Person of Jesus Christ in both the Old and New Testaments. We see the image of God, who is Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, through the history of man, before the world was, and today, and forever. The Spirit of God is not merely revealing to us a man, He is revealing to us A Supernatural Man. We are speaking of The God of glory. And the face of that glory is in Jesus Christ.

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (2 Corinthians 4:4)

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:6)

The Spirit of God is painting a picture of an image for us. He is using His expertise to show us this God of glory in the face of Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God, who is the son of man, who is our God of glory.

Back to John 8 once more, the pronoun that the Lord Jesus used referring to Himself, ‘I,’ is used by the Savior 49 times. Remember that this is one of the last times that He dealt with the collective body of the Jews at the Temple. Forty nine (49) times He said ‘I,’ could this be His last declaration for now (one number short of 50); we are waiting for the Day of Jubilee (50) in His millennial kingdom. In the day of Jubilee all is put aside, and all begins anew. The 49th year begins the day of atonement. This number 49 is only mentioned once in Scripture — setting a time frame in symbolism to the day of atonement. There are no scriptural accidents in words, phrases, numbers because God the Holy Spirit makes no mistakes.

And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years. (Leviticus 25:8) (Brain food: notice the seven’s (7), four times we have the number 7, (7²), 7² =49)

Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land. (Leviticus 25:9)

And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.(Leviticus 25:10)

As The God of glory, He is pointing us to a future fulfillment of prophecy concerning His people, Israel. In the first ‘I’ it is in verse 8:11, neither do I condemn thee. This shows the power that Christ had within Himself to forgive sin. The last ‘I’ in 8:58, I say unto you, Before Abraham was I AM. Here the Lord Jesus revealed Himself as the self-existing God, the great I AM. Who shall I say, has sent me? Tell them, the great I AM has sent me. We see in our day this great revelation of Scripture to reveal to us, The God of glory in the face of Jesus Christ.

And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations. (Exodus 3:14)

John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; (Revelation 1:4)

The great I AM, The God of glory, unveiled to Moses that He is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. In these three personalities, God will continue to remind the children of Israel that He is their God through each one of these personalities: Abraham as a figure of the Father, Isaac as a figure of the Son, and Jacob as a figure of the Spirit. Abraham took his son to mount Moriah to offer him as a sacrifice to God. It is there he learns that God Himself will provide Himself as the sacrifice for sin in His Son, Jesus Christ. In Isaac, we have the son waiting for his bride, as Abraham’s servant searched the land of Mesopotamia, and found Rebecca, and stated, I being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren. Then, this unnamed servant left Mesopotamia bringing a bride for Isaac in a long journey, and when they approach the land of Isaac, they saw Isaac coming to meet them. What a wonderful picture of the Bride of Christ being brought by the Spirit of God to God’s dear Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. In Jacob, we have the vision of the Lord standing above the ladder, and the angels ascending and descending upon Bethel (the house of God). We see in Jacob God preparing a people for Himself. This people will be complete (looking forward) when God brings them into the promised land, and looking back we see their journey into the land as a foreshadow of the promises of God to come. As the Spirit of God, today, works preparing a people for the heavenlies we see in ourselves a people prepared for God by God the Holy Spirit, as in Jacob, a people prepared for the land.

Let Us Go Down: To Give Life Supernaturally – Divine Intervention

As the Lord Jesus appeared to Abraham in Mesopotamia, He also followed His servant and directed His path. He appeared to Abraham many times. Because Abraham is such a big part of Jewish life and history, both in the past and in the present, we need to follow the Lord’s appearances to Abraham and try to connect these appearances to the mind and thoughts of God the Holy Spirit. Although the renewing of the seed of promise is in Isaac (Galatians 4) the renewing of the seed of promise begins in the loins of Abraham. As Levi paid tithes to God while he was in the loins of Abraham referring to Abraham meeting with Melchizedek, so the seed that was given to Abraham (his son Isaac) was a heavenly gift from the Creator. This renewing of the seed is a supernatural occurrence. Why? let us examine both of the parents of Isaac (Abraham and Sarah). The servant of God, Abraham, was old, and God describes him as good as dead, Sarah was also well past the age of childbearing.

And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. (Genesis 18:9)

And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. (Genesis 18:10)

Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. (Genesis 18:11)

Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? (Genesis 18:12)

And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? (Genesis 18:13)

Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. (Genesis 18:14)

Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. (Hebrews 11:11)

Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. (Hebrews 11:12)

In both these Scriptures sections, we behold the divine intervention by God; for God is carrying out His determinate counsels. We see in the divine action of God that although man might try to overthrow the things of God, the Almighty God will not be denied. Since Noah, man had turned his back on God. In the call of Abraham, we have divine intervention in the realm of the children of men. Not only is Abraham a chosen vessel, but Sara is also brought in as a chosen vessel as well. God wanted them both to understand that nothing of themselves could bring about the promise that God gave to Abraham. That only His divine purpose would give seed to both Abraham and Sara. And God would bring forth Isaac as the child of promise. Isaac’s descendants would carry the seed of faith from which the Messiah would spring out of the tribe of Judah as recorded in Matthew, Chapter 1.

Let Us Go Down: In Judgment

In the calling of Abraham we not only see his divine call, but we see the multiplicity of the divine Being of God appearing to Abraham. First: in the land of Mesopotamia as The God of glory (Acts 7:1,2) then, throughout his sojourn in the land of promise, as the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth. (Genesis 14:19) Since the title of this article is Let Us Go Down, I wish to address the appearance of the three men to Abraham while he sat in the door of his tent. This, of course, is not the first appearance of God in the land, but it is very important for we remember at the tower in the city of Babel, that God said, Let us go down. The reference of the Godhead in the word ‘us’ is repeated in a physical sense by Abraham’s visit with the three men. We see in this the representation of the three figures of men, for the Spirit of God speaks of them collectively as one in their approach and in their speech to give us a vision back to the book of beginnings to the Godhead. Although, we are not introduced to God as Father, Son and Holy Ghost, we see in the three men a representation or witness of the Godhead. In the text we see that the Lord stays with Abraham, and the two others (the number of witness) go down to Sodom. However, in this divine appearance, the one man, the Lord, declares to Abraham that He will go down to Sodom; this reveals the omnipresence of the Godhead. (Genesis 18:21) I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. In this statement the Lord Himself told Abraham that He will go down to Sodom, however, in verse 22 we only see two witnesses going down to Sodom while the Lord remains with Abraham. And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. (Genesis 18:22) We are very limited in human intelligence for in many ways God has said to the minds of men, as He did to the proud and boisterous ways, Thus far and no further. This represents the thoughts and the actions of human intelligence. Human intelligence has been tainted by sin, and only through the Scriptures and divine revelation from God, can we understand the limits to the thoughts of man, and the ways of men. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. (Isaiah 55:8) For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9) The deeper man goes into sin, the darker his mind and heart becomes until there is no remedy. Not only collectively, but individually there becomes a point in time when God gives them up.

Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. (2 Chronicles 36:14)

And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: (2 Chronicles 36:15)

But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy. (2 Chronicles 36:16)

What would make me believe this can be applied to our day? Examine societies globally, they are in total disarray when it comes to the things of God. They have rejected God in every way, and do not realize the extent of their calamity. Adam did not realize the extent of his tragedy, nor did Cain, nor millions before the flood, or those at the city of Babel. As we approach the judgment on the city of Sodom, we find that they are unaware of the great calamity that was about to overthrow them and the other cities of the plains. For God has come down!

And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; (Genesis 18:20)

I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. (Genesis 18:21)

And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. (Genesis 18:22)

The history of Sodom and the five cities of the plains is well documented. This area was known as the well watered plains of Jordan. These were the plains that Lot beheld when he and Abraham separated. As the tree in the Garden, the lure of these plains was what Lot beheld, and what he looked upon was pleasant to the eyes of Lot, and because it was pleasant he desired the well watered plains of Jordan.

And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. (Genesis 13:10)

Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. (Genesis 13:11)

The Almighty God declared to Abraham in Genesis 12 four times, I will. The first, I will show thee; the second, I will make thee a great nation; the third, I will bless thee and make thy name great; and the fourth, I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee. These are the ‘I wills’ of God for Abraham.

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: (Genesis 12:1)

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: (Genesis 12:2)

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. (Genesis 12:3)

In Lot, we see the ‘I wants’ of man. If man honors the ‘I wills’ of God man will be in a far better position, but if man travels in his own direction, and in his own wants, then he will be in jeopardy, for man will be self and sin motivated in his ‘I wants.’ We glean this from the actions of Lot. Lot looked with the eyes of men, with the desires of men, and with the motives of men. The phrase, Lot lifted up his eyes, reveals the heart of man. His eyes led him to Sodom, and Sodom was just as deadly as the tree of good and evil in the garden of God.

The Message Contained in the Numbers: The Number 13

But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.(Genesis 13:13) I would like to say something about this verse before we proceed with the rest of this article. We have the duplicate of the number 13 in 13:13. How could the mere mind of men figure this verse in this Chapter as the complete symbol of evil. I always think of Chapter 13, and verse 13 of Genesis as I do with the man in Revelation whose number is 6 – 6 – 6, and is the epitome of all evil. We have in Sodom the symbol of evil, even the world today refers to the number 13 as an unlucky number or a number that represents evil. Even Friday the 13th is feared by many. How, did the Spirit of God identify these wicked men of Sodom by placing the number 13:13 as a symbol of the Beast to come. I will always believe in scriptural numerology: even in the application of Spirit led verse and chapters numbering. Concerning the Scriptures, the passer by will never see the depth of the river of life, And so, the clouded eyes of man without Christ will never see the glories of heaven. There are two chapters that I would like you to compare with Chapter 13, verse 13 of Genesis. The whole Chapter of Matthew 13, the whole Chapter of Revelation 13. Again, there are no contradictions, nor conflicts within the Word of God because it is authored by God Himself through God the Holy Spirit: One Author. In Matthew, Chapter 13, you will see the conflict of man against God, and Satan trying to destroy the work of God. In Revelation, Chapter 13, you will see the final outcome of man possessed by the devil, and the man of complete evil in his number 6 – 6 – 6. This is not an exhaustive study on the number 13, and we will again through our future studies bump into this number once more.

Let Us Go Down — and — I Will Go Down Now

Once again, our title, Let us go down, is referring to the Godhead. This phrase only appears one time in the entire Bible. And it is in reference to the city of Babel. In reference to the city of Sodom, the Lord Himself declared, I will go down now. Yes, you guessed it, this phrase also appears only once in the entire Bible. Two cities of judgment, and two declarations: Let us go down, and I will go down now! We have the revelation of God appearing on earth: 1st as ‘us’ or the Godhead; 2nd God Himself coming down. These occasions are neglected by man’s religion. As they want to humanize the Lord Jesus, they also want to deny His pre-appearances in the Old Testament to man. It is only the mind of the Spirit of Christ that confirms these wonders, for the Spirit of God speaks expressly.

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (1 Timothy 4:1)

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.(1 Corinthians 2:9)

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (1 Corinthians 2:10)

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2:11)

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. (1 Corinthians 2:12)

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. (1 Corinthians 2:13)

In the outward visible church filled with the religious minds of men many desire the outward manifestation of the Spirit of God, however, those who desire this manifestation have not the inward manifestation and possession of God the Holy Spirit. These are the well watered plains casting themselves up in the eyes of men, and will only lead to Sodom. Jude tells us . . . .

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.(Jude 1:7)

These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;(Jude 1:12)

Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. (Jude 1:13)

All these verses relate to the fiery judgment of God against the evils of man. In God’s judgments we find that man (when musing on the past judgments of God) should take heed of those judgments in his own life. Anyone who professes the knowledge of Christ without possessing the Spirit of Christ needs to take these judgments as a conviction and warning to their own souls.

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? (Hebrews 10:29)

Read this verse reverently and honestly in the power and presence of the Holy Ghost. It is God who sees the heart of man, not the world. Remember, faith is a gift of God, faith is the substance (or tangible) of things hoped for, and it is the divine evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. When the Lord Jesus was approaching the cross, He knew that He was no longer going to be in the world, and that He was going forth to God, that God the Father would send His disciples and unto those who would believe, the gift of the Holy Spirit who He called ‘another Comforter.’

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (Romans 8:9)

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; (John 14:16)

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:17)

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: (John 15:26)

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. (John 16:7)

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: (John 16:8)

Of sin, because they believe not on me; (John 16:9)

Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;(John 16:10)

Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. (John 16:11)

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (John 16:13)

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. (John 16:14)

All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. (John 16:15)

Remember that we are dealing with the unity and presence of the Godhead in this article. In the words of the Lord Jesus to His disciples, He disclosed to us that both He, the Father, and the Spirit are One in thought, and in actions. We have the complete work of the Spirit of God given by the Lord Jesus; that He would lead the children of God into all truth: the truth that the world around us denies. In 1st Timothy 4:1, we have a world (as Sodom and Gomorrah turned their backs on the truth of God, and as the citizens of the city of Babel worshiped the stars and themselves) looking over the well watered plains of the earth, and selling their souls for gain. The Spirit of God makes visible to us that He has spoken expressly through the entirety of the Bible. Oh, and for those who are keeping record, the Spirit speaketh expressly only appears once in the entire Bible, and it is in regard to those who have departed from the faith. They embrace seducing spirits of devils, and they give way to the doctrines of devils, and they listen to the ministers of Satan. This is all divine revelation given by the Spirit of God who is the ambassador of the Spirit of Christ. (Romans 8:9) Everything that the Lord said about the Comforter is denied by the world, and also denied and refused by a huge majority of the professing church: for they have not the Spirit of Christ.

Once again, the unity of God came down to the city of Babel in judgment: the unity of God came down (seen through the appearance of three men) to Abraham united in fellowship to Abraham, and united in judgment for Sodom. We also have the seven Spirits of God around the throne which represents the completion and the fullness of the Godhead bodily in Jesus Christ. For He is the fullness of the Godhead, and Christ is the manifested glory of God, and we see this glory in the face of Jesus Christ.

Amen.
